Al Hallaj and The Tawasin at Meem Gallery Meem Gallery’s latest mixed-media exhibition by Amar Dawod is inspired by the writings of famous Sufi thinker Mansur Al Hallaj, who was executed for heresy in 922. Until January 20. Meem Gallery, Al Quoz, www.meem.ae (04 347 7883).

Colours of Life at Baginskaya Gallery and Studio The launch of this new exhibition will take place at 8pm in the presence of the artist. From Armenia, Taron Simonian’s paintings are inspired by his travels. Until January 21. Baginskaya Gallery, JLT (050 556 2210).

The Collected at The Third Line Amir H Fallah’s third solo show is an exploration of the relation between the artist and the patron. The pictures are pre-commissioned portraits, which he has manipulated without the approval of the financier. Until January 23. Charlie Calder-Potts Furniture store Ikonhouse is exhibiting Charlie Calder-Potts’ mixed media artworks on aluminium, inspired by the British artist's travels. Until January 5. Ikonhouse, (04 388 1848).

Ruben Sanchez: The B Side Following his residency with Tashkeel, the Barcelona-based street artist Ruben Sanchez is exhibiting his creations. Until December 31. Tashkeel, Nad Al Sheba (04 336 3313).

Wa Roox Line-Up at Artissima Art Gallery The young French graffiti talent Wa Roox will be demonstrating his skills as well as showcasing his works, as part of the first exhibition by Street Art Dubai. Journey to Yemen at Total Arts at the Courtyard This group exhibition of photographs features the work of 13 artists, which focuses on images captured in the African state in March and May 2009. Until December 21. Total Arts at the Courtyard, near Spinneys warehouse, Al Quoz, (04 347 5050).

Pop Art Sundays with Maria Iqbal at Mezza House Every Sunday for the month of December, graffiti artists and DIY experts will up-cycle and show visitors how to create new and exciting works of art. This week the free workshop will be hosted by designer and artist Maria Iqbal who creates vibrant hand-painted furniture, art and accessories that are inspired by pop art and fashion. Eyes Wide Open – An Afghan Journey This show features a selection of work from Dubai-based photographer Pia Torelli's visit to Afghanistan in 2002, presented next to images she captured in 2013, providing a commentary on the evolution of the nation. Statue of Limitation Named after a legal term for the amount of time before someone is no longer able to be prosecuted for a crime, this mixed-media exhibition focuses on the Cold War period of history and draws intriguing parallels with issues such as fear and propaganda. Gentle at XVA Gallery Artist Jonathan Gent’s solo exhibition features new works involving paintings on wooden boards.  The artworks focus on the artist's impressions of the Mediterranean and his memories of Dubai from 2008.
